On Thursday, September 15, a special online award event will be held to announce the winners of the event’s eight categories, two special awards, and the eventual winner. Along with a number of outstanding nominated photos, the winning images will be shown in an exhibit at the National Maritime Museum commencing on Saturday, September 17.

In comparison to the more common forms of photography that we are used to, astrophotography is rather different. You might be a landscape photographer looking to branch out, or you might be brand new to photography but have always been fascinated by the night sky.

To make a stunning picture you need a  standard setup for deep-sky astrophotography equipment normally consists of an equatorial mount, telescope, camera, auto-guiding system, and a plethora of other extras needed to keep the camera operational all night.

How Many Types Of Astronomy Photography Are Divided This Year:

The categories included Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year, Outstanding Victor, Skyscapes, Emission nebula, Folks and Space, Our Sun, Our Night sky, Planetary systems, Galactic clusters, Stars and Supernovae, Galaxy clusters, and last but not least, Black Hole. The latter category is open to aspiring photographers under the age of 16.

One of the most prominent honors for people whose love is photographing the night sky is the Astronomy Photographer of the Year Award, now in its 14th year. The impacts of light pollution were one of the recurrent themes in people’s photographs this year.

The Young Astronomy Photographer of the Year nominee Zezhen Zhou stated: “Just because you live in a city doesn’t imply that the stars have abandoned you.

This picture, in my opinion, not only demonstrates the beauty of the night sky but also teaches us to keep our enthusiasm for astronomy despite adverse environmental conditions.
